HushSecret Apps That Look Like a Calculator: What to Check
Some storage apps use a calculator-style interface. An icon is only one surface: check actual access controls, account records, storage and recovery before relying on it.
Calculator-style storage apps exist, with different features and access controls. Their icon does not guarantee that the app or its contents cannot be discovered. Hush takes a keypad approach with per-chat codes, but it also leaves app and service records.
What a calculator-style interface changes
Some storage apps put their content behind a PIN entered through a calculator-style screen. Features, storage and recovery differ by product; a familiar-looking icon is not enough to establish how any particular app protects content.
Check more than the icon
- Access controls: check what an unlock opens and whether someone with your device passcode can also enter.
- Device and store records: app information, purchase history and usage records can reveal that an app is installed.
- Storage: check whether imports copy or move originals, where content is stored and what deletion removes.
- Recovery: learn what happens if you lose the code or account access before relying on it.
Try built-in photo controls before choosing a storage app
Apple’s Hidden album and Google Photos Locked Folder can remove selected media from ordinary photo views with their documented access controls. Supported Galaxy devices also offer Secure Folder. A different interface is not a security guarantee
Compare a specific product's documented behavior with your needs. A calculator-style icon and Hush's keypad are different interfaces; neither removes every device record or protects against every way content could be obtained.
How Hush uses a keypad and per-chat codes
Hush's home screen is a numeric keypad with no contact or conversation list on that screen. Each chat opens with its own six-digit code; leaving the chat returns you to the keypad. Requests, blocked users and security alerts can show names or badges elsewhere in the app.
Message notifications use generic new-message text, but can show the sender's name by default. Choose to show the name, hide it, or mute a contact. These controls are free; check your phone and any paired screen after changing them. Other notifications, such as contact requests, can show identities.
- Install Hush from your app store. It is free to download, with optional in-app purchases.
- Create an account and choose a username. The current default signup needs no phone number or email.
- Connect by username or invite link. For a username request, choose your six-digit code when sending or accepting it; the other person must approve and chooses their own code. A one-tap invite link from Hush connects you without a separate approval once the person who received it has set up Hush and taps it.
- Open the chat with your code. Return to the keypad when you leave.
- Check notification controls on both phones. Select show name, hide name or mute for that contact, then check the actual notifications.
An incorrect code does not open a chat or space. The keypad can give error feedback. Security alerts can warn about several different incorrect codes tried in a short time. A single typo does not normally trigger an alert, and an alert does not prove who tried the codes.
- Hush conversations happen inside Hush. It does not hide existing SMS, iMessage or WhatsApp chats. Both people need Hush to message each other.
- Keep your codes and account access safe. There is no in-app forgotten-code recovery or master unlock. Reconnecting with a known username starts fresh and does not recover earlier history. The default account has no implemented recovery route after session loss; do not assume reinstalling or changing devices restores it.
- Hush is not end-to-end encrypted. Backend services store messages, media and access data. Code-based access is not a guarantee against server or device access.
Common questions
Is Hush a calculator app?
No. Hush is a separate app with a keypad interface. It does not promise a calculator icon or a different app identity.
Does a keypad remove every sign of activity?
No. Requests, blocked users, alerts, notifications, app-store history and device usage records can reveal activity. Code-based access controls which chat opens.
Can Hush hide photos too?
Private Spaces on iPhone hold your own photos and videos behind their own codes. Importing from Photos leaves the original in Photos. Android release parity for this feature is unverified.
Can it hide my other messaging apps?
No. Hush conversations happen inside Hush. Existing SMS, iMessage and WhatsApp threads remain in their original apps.
