1. Hide Alerts for one conversation
In Messages, swipe left on the thread and tap the bell icon. That single conversation goes quiet — no banners, no sounds, no lock-screen appearances — and stays quiet until you undo it.

- What it leaks: everything else. The thread sits in the list with its full history, one scroll from anyone holding the phone.
2. Turn off lock-screen previews
In Settings → Notifications → Show Previews, choose When Unlocked. 3. Delete the thread — then empty Recently Deleted
Deleting a conversation removes it from the list but not immediately from the phone: deleted threads sit in Messages' Recently Deleted section for up to 30 days, one tap from restoration. If you mean it, delete it there too.
- What it hides: the history — eventually everywhere on your phone, once Recently Deleted is emptied.
- What it leaks: nothing, but at a price. You lose your own copy, their copy still exists on their phone, and the thread reappears the moment they text again.
4. Filter unknown senders
Turn on the unknown-senders filter in Messages' settings and texts from people who aren't in your contacts move to a separate list, with their notifications silenced.

5. Require Face ID — or hide an app outright
On iOS 18, long-press an app icon and you can require Face ID (or Touch ID, or your passcode) before it opens — including for the entire Messages app. Third-party apps can go further and be hidden in a locked, hidden section of the App Library, off the Home Screen and out of search. - What it hides: the whole app behind your face or passcode; a hidden app stops appearing on the Home Screen at all.

How Hush takes the conversation off the surface
Hush's home screen is a numeric keypad. Not a disguised chat list — no chat list. No conversations, no contact names, no unread badges, nothing to scroll and nothing to search. Each contact exists only behind a 6-digit code you chose for that person: type it and that one chat opens, leave and it hides again. "Hand someone your phone. They can't prove you talk to anyone."

Common questions
Can I hide text messages and phone calls together?
Inside Hush the question dissolves: there is no voice or video calling, deliberately, so a hidden contact can never ring your phone. On iOS itself there's no real way to hide call history from someone scrolling the Phone app — you can delete entries from Recents, but that's removal, not hiding, and a carrier bill keeps its own record.
Does deleting a conversation really delete it?
Not immediately. A deleted thread moves to Recently Deleted, where it stays recoverable for up to 30 days before it's permanently removed — open that section and delete it there too if you're deleting with intent. And remember: your delete does nothing to the copy on the other person's phone.
Can I hide the Hush app itself?
